Letter W – 4/28 – 5/2

5/2/25

Dear Families,

Andy Warhol, experimenting with wind, and building a wishing well were wonderful W activities this week!

We talked about Andy Warhol and learned about his famous Pop Art.  The children learned that he painted everyday objects, such as Campbell’s soup cans, dollar bills, and shoes to name a few.  Everyday objects the TK children see are their hands!  This three-day Star activity consisted of painting four sections on a piece of white paper.  The only criteria were to use four different colors.  Day 2 involved tracing their hands on four different colors, cutting them out, and gluing them on top of the sections. The last day was to dip their hand in black paint to put on top of the cut out hands.  These whimsical masterpieces are hanging outside our classroom!

Did your child build a strong structure or house at the Science table? We tested out how strong buildings could be when made with straws, paper, popsicle sticks, and other various materials. Could the building stand up to wind?  Ask your child if he/she tried to blow over their building using a blow-dryer with teacher assistance.

Did your child tell you about the wishing well that we built? We first discussed what a wishing well was and showed pictures of different types. Then, we came up with a plan as a class as to what shape and what blocks to use to build the wishing well. Each child got a chance to come up and add multiple pieces to our wishing well. Then, everyone thought of a wish, wrote it on a piece of paper, and threw it in to the well. What a wonderful activity!

Questions to ask your child:

  1. Did your child play the Guess Who game?
  2. Can your child tell you about our car wash at dramatic play?
  3. Did your child play our “build a word” game? This was a fun challenge for all!

Next week, we will be all things X!

Best,

Lynn and Jessica
