Letter J – 12/9 – 12/13

December 13, 2024

Dear TK Families,

The TK children jumped for joy at all of our letter J activities!

It is so wonderful to see how well your children are doing with the weekly journals! This is a great activity as they are working on their fine motor skills and they are sounding out words.  Listening to the children at this table you will hear them making the sounds of different letters in attempting to write the words. You can also hear them chatting with each other about their weekends.  A lot of good socializing at the writing table!

This week, we really had to put our science “hats” on! On Monday, we placed some jellybeans in to 3 containers. Each container had a different substance: salt water, liquid starch, and clear glue. The TK children made their predictions about what might happen, drew a picture in their science journal, and wrote the words. Can your child tell you what happened to the jellybeans? Was the reaction the same or different?

Speaking of jellybeans, ask your child about our Jellybean Graphing math activity. Each child received a bag of different color jellybeans. First, they grouped them by color. Next, they colored in a square for the amount of each color they had on their graph. Lastly, they compared which color jellybean they had the most of, and which they had the least of. The final step was to taste them! Such a yummy activity!

The boys and girls had a fun time playing jacks! It is very tricky to try to bounce the ball, and pick up the jacks at the same time. Not an easy game to play! The children also enjoyed playing the game Jenga this week. They carefully have to pull out the block pieces without tipping over the structure. Lots of laughs and loud bangs!

We ended our week with our Winter Holiday Concert! The TK children worked super hard over the last week to learn these songs & they were excited to sing them for you! We are SO proud of them! 😊

Questions to ask your child:

  1. Ask your child about our Jack and the Beanstalk building activity. Were they able to build a beanstalk up to the castle without it falling over?
  2. What games did we play in Sports class this week?
  3. Can your child tell you about the “Jumping Bean” game?

When we return from vacation, we will do a short author study on Jan Brett.

Have a wonderful holiday season & see you next year!

Best,

Lynn and Jessica
